Biography
Janet MacLachlan was an American actress. Born Janet Angel MacLachlan on 27 August 1933 in Harlem, New York City, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hunter College in 1955 before pursuing acting. She trained at the Harlem YMCA, the Herbert Berghof Acting Studio and the Little Theatre of Harlem, and performed at the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. She later became a contract player for Universal Studios.
MacLachlan appeared in films including Sounder (1972), in which she played Camille Johnson, The Man (1972), The Thirteenth Floor (1999) and Heart and Souls (1993). On television she had roles in series such as Star Trek (1966), The Rockford Files, ER (1994), Home Improvement (1991), Alias (2001), Wonder Woman (1975), Murder, She Wrote (1984) and The Six Million Dollar Man (1974). She won a Los Angeles-area Emmy Award in 1981 for her performance in Voices of Our People: In Celebration of Black Poetry.
MacLachlan served as grant committee chairman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She died on 11 October 2010 in Los Angeles, California.
