Biography
Janet Sarno (1933–2023) was an American character actress known for work in theatre, film and television. She trained at Yale Drama School, where she earned an MFA and twice received the Hill Award for Excellence in Acting.
Her stage career included Broadway appearances in Dylan (1964), Equus (1974–1977), Knockout (1979), The Apple Doesn't Fall... (1996) and Fish in the Dark (2015). Film roles encompassed The Hospital (1971), Across 110th Street (1972), Power (1986), The Hard Way (1991) and Requiem for a Dream (2000) as Mrs. Pearlman. She also appeared in television series including Law & Order and New Amsterdam.
Sarno taught acting and founded the Limelighters Theatre Group for older performers. She was married to New York State Supreme Court Justice Michael Joseph Dontzin until his death in 2012.
