Biography
Jaques Morelenbaum is a Brazilian composer, cellist, arranger, conductor and music producer. Born in Rio de Janeiro on 18 May 1954, he studied cello and conducting in Brazil before attending the New England Conservatory of Music. He began his career in the progressive rock group A Barca do Sol and later worked extensively with Antônio Carlos Jobim.
Morelenbaum is best known internationally for his film scores. With Antonio Pinto, he composed the soundtrack for Central Station (1998), which received the Prêmio Sharp for best soundtrack. Other cinema credits include O Quatrilho (1995) and Orfeu (1999). He has also arranged and performed on numerous recordings with artists including Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa and Ryuichi Sakamoto, and is married to singer Paula Morelenbaum.
