Biography
Jay Presson Allen was an American screenwriter and playwright. Born Jacqueline Presson on 3 March 1922 in Texas, she began her career writing for television in the 1950s after publishing her first novel in 1948. She later became known for adaptations of novels and plays for both stage and screen.
Her screen credits include Marnie (1964), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969), Cabaret (1972), Travels with My Aunt (1972), Funny Lady (1975), Prince of the City (1981) and Deathtrap (1982). She also wrote the play versions of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and Forty Carats, and contributed to the television series Family. Allen received Academy Award nominations for adapted screenplay for Cabaret and Prince of the City.
She was married to producer Lewis Allen from 1955 until his death in 2003. Allen died on 1 May 2006 in New York.
