Biography
J.D. Souther, also credited as John David Souther, was an American singer-songwriter and actor. Born on 2 November 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, he grew up in Amarillo, Texas, and died on 17 September 2024 in Sandia Park, New Mexico.
He co-wrote several hits recorded by the Eagles, including "Best of My Love", "New Kid in Town" and "Heartache Tonight", as well as songs for Linda Ronstadt. His solo recordings included the hit "You're Only Lonely" (1979). Souther appeared as Watty White in the television series Nashville (2012–2017) and had roles in films such as Always (1989), Postcards from the Edge (1990) and My Girl 2 (1994). He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013.
