Biography
Jean Aymé (born John Louis Meilliard) was a French actor of Swiss origin. He appeared in more than eighty films between 1911 and 1950, beginning his career with Gaumont under the direction of Louis Feuillade.
He is best known for playing the first Grand Vampire (Le Grand Vampire) in six episodes of Feuillade’s serial Les Vampires (1915). Other notable roles include an uncredited judge in Carl Theodor Dreyer’s The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928), Monsieur de Fouguerolles in La Marseillaise (1938) and Adrien in Lady Killer (1937). Aymé also directed the 1919 short Les Étapes d’une douleur.
Born on 25 April 1876 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, he died in Paris on 17 January 1963.
