Biography
Jean-Claude Biette (6 November 1942 – 10 June 2003) was a French filmmaker, actor and critic. Born in Paris, he contributed to Cahiers du cinéma from 1964 and later co-founded the film journal Trafic with Serge Daney. He worked as an assistant director on Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Oedipus Rex (1967) during a period spent in Italy.
Biette directed eight feature films, including Le Théâtre des matières (1977), Loin de Manhattan (1981), Le Champignon des Carpathes (1990), Le Complexe de Toulon (1995), Trois Ponts sur la rivière (1999) and Saltimbank (2003). He also appeared as an actor in films such as The Mother and the Whore (1973, uncredited), A Tale of Winter (1992) as Quentin, and several of his own works.
