Biography
Jean Eustache was a French film director and editor. Born in Pessac, Gironde, he worked as a film critic for Cahiers du Cinéma and made several short films and documentaries before his first feature.
He directed, wrote and edited The Mother and the Whore (1973), a 219-minute film starring Jean-Pierre Léaud, Bernadette Lafont and Françoise Lebrun. He also appeared uncredited in Jean-Luc Godard's Weekend (1967) and as the Friendly Man in Wim Wenders's The American Friend (1977). His other notable feature is My Little Loves (1974).
Eustache completed his work between 1961 and 1980. He died in Paris in 1981.
