Biography
Jean-Pierre Sergent was a French director, writer and journalist. Born on 11 August 1940 in Plouézec, Côtes-d’Armor, he appeared as himself in the cinéma vérité documentary Chronicle of a Summer (1961) while a philosophy student alongside Régis Debray and Marceline Loridan.
He co-directed the political documentaries Algérie, année zéro (1965) and Rio Chiquito (1965), and directed The People and Their Guns (1970). Sergent co-wrote the screenplay for The Birch-Tree Meadow (2003) with Loridan-Ivens. He later became a journalist, serving as editor of the magazine Ça m’intéresse with a focus on ecology and geopolitics. He died on 14 July 2024.
