Biography
Jean Poiret, born Jean Poiré, was a French actor, director, screenwriter and playwright. He appeared as Jean-Loup Cottins in François Truffaut's The Last Metro (1980).
Poiret first rose to prominence in radio and cabaret in the early 1950s, forming a long-running partnership with Michel Serrault. He wrote and starred in the stage play La Cage aux Folles (1973), which ran for over 2,000 performances and inspired several film adaptations.
He wrote screenplays for films including La Cage aux Folles (1978) and Happy Easter (1984), and directed his only feature, Le Zèbre (1992). Poiret appeared in numerous other films, such as Atlantic Wall (1970), Cop au Vin (1985) and Inspector Lavardin (1986).
