Biography
Jean Rabier was a French cinematographer. He began his career as a camera operator in the late 1940s and worked on several early French New Wave films before becoming a director of photography.
He is best known for his long collaboration with Claude Chabrol, shooting more than 40 of the director’s films from the early 1960s until 1991. Rabier also photographed Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962) for Agnès Varda, Bay of Angels (1963) and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) for Jacques Demy, and The Butcher (1970) for Chabrol.
He was born on 16 March 1927 in Montfort-l’Amaury and died on 15 February 2016 in Port-de-Bouc.
