Biography
Jean Ravel (1927–1990) was a French film editor. Born in Nice, he began working in the industry in the early 1950s and became known for his work on documentaries and features.
He edited Chronicle of a Summer (1961) alongside Néna Baratier and Françoise Collin, and contributed to Chris Marker’s La Jetée (1962). His later credits include The Cat (1971), The Widow Couderc (1971), The Last Train (1973), The French Detective (1975), Hunter Will Get You (1976) and L’Étoile du Nord (1982). Ravel received four César nominations for Best Editing between 1976 and 1983.
He collaborated frequently with director Pierre Granier-Deferre and served as co-president of the French film technicians’ union SNTPCT from 1968 until his death in Paris in 1990.
