Biography
Jean Sorel is a French actor born on 25 September 1934 in Marseille. He studied at the École normale supérieure intending a diplomatic career but turned to acting after military service in Algeria.
Sorel made his film debut in the late 1950s and became a leading man in European cinema during the 1960s and 1970s. He is known for roles in Belle de Jour (1967), The Four Days of Naples (1962), Sandra (1965), One on Top of the Other (1969), A Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971), Short Night of Glass Dolls (1971) and The Day of the Jackal (1973). He worked with directors including Luis Buñuel and Luchino Visconti, and has appeared extensively in Italian cinema and, since the 1980s, in television.
He was married to Italian actress Anna Maria Ferrero from 1962 until her death in 2018.
