Biography
Jeni Le Gon (also credited as Jeni LeGon and variants) was an American dancer and actress. Born Jennie Ligon in Chicago on 14 August 1916, she trained at Mary Bruce's School of Dancing and began performing in vaudeville and chorus lines from her mid-teens. She made her film debut in Hooray for Love (1935) dancing with Bill Robinson.
Le Gon appeared in numerous Hollywood films through the 1940s, including Arabian Nights (1942), Stormy Weather (1943), I Walked with a Zombie (1943) as a dancer, Hi-De-Ho (1947), Easter Parade (1948) as Essie (uncredited), and I Shot Jesse James (1949). She also performed on Broadway and in all-Black cast films. Later she taught dance and managed a playhouse in Los Angeles before moving to Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1969, where she continued teaching. She died there on 7 December 2012.
