Biography
Jennifer Black is a Scottish actress. Born and raised in Glasgow, she moved to Bridge of Weir at the age of 13 and trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She worked in repertory theatre in Crewe, spent four years in London and later returned to Scotland.
Black is known for her role as Stella Urquhart in the 1983 film Local Hero. She has appeared in numerous television series, including as Chief Superintendent Gill Templer in Rebus (2006–2007), Jean Ferguson in Shetland (2023) and the Chairwoman in Succession (2019). Other credits include River City (2007–2021), The Bill and Taggart. In 1990 she founded her own theatre company and has directed stage productions including Orphans and Thérèse Raquin.
