Biography
Jerry Fielding, born Joshua Itzhak Feldman, was an American composer, arranger and bandleader. He began his career writing arrangements for big bands and working in radio and television before being blacklisted in the early 1950s. He returned to scoring feature films in the 1960s.
Fielding composed the music for Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch (1969) and Straw Dogs (1971), as well as Clint Eastwood’s The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) and The Gauntlet (1977). He received Academy Award nominations for the first three of these scores. Other notable credits include Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974) and Escape from Alcatraz (1979).
He died in Toronto in 1980 while scoring a film. A posthumous Emmy Award recognised his work on the television film High Midnight (1979).
