Biography
Jerry Leichtling is an American screenwriter and journalist. Born on 1 June 1948 in Queens, New York, he worked as a journalist for the Village Voice, Rolling Stone and Harper’s Magazine before entering screenwriting.
He frequently collaborates with his wife, Arlene Sarner. Their screenplay for Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), directed by Francis Ford Coppola, was released by Tri-Star Pictures. Leichtling wrote the screenplay for Blue Sky (1994) and the television film Switched at Birth (1999), on which he also served as co-executive producer. With Sarner he adapted the film into a musical that opened in London’s West End in 2001.
