Biography

Jerzy Oskar Stuhr (18 April 1947 – 9 July 2024) was a Polish actor and director. He studied Polish philology at Jagiellonian University and acting at the National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków. He served two terms as rector of the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Kraków, from 1990 to 1996 and from 2002 to 2008.

Stuhr appeared in numerous films, including Camera Buff (1979), Sexmission (1984), Decalogue X (1989), Three Colors: White (1994) as Jurek, Kiler (1997), We Have a Pope (2011) and A Brighter Tomorrow (2023). He also worked as a screenwriter, voice actor and drama professor. He received the Polish Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Persona non grata (2006) and the Polish Academy Life Achievement Award (2018).
