Biography
Jessie Arnold (3 December 1884 – 5 May 1955) was an American character actress who appeared in more than 150 films from the silent era to the early 1950s. Born in Lyons, Michigan, she began her career in silent shorts and features, including The Wager (1912), Shoes (1916) and The Dark Mirror (1920). She toured Australia and the Orient before joining Universal City's stock company in 1916.
Arnold is credited with roles such as Mrs Blake in The Bitter Tea of General Yen (1932), Woman at Auto Camp (uncredited) in It Happened One Night (1934), Gypsy Woman (uncredited) in The Wolf Man (1941) and Schoolteacher / Courtroom Spectator (uncredited) in The Lady from Shanghai (1947). She also appeared in Stella Dallas (1937), A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945), The Reckless Moment (1949) and No Way Out (1950), often in uncredited parts.
