Biography
Jessie Nelson is an American producer, director, writer and former actress. She began her career in theatre, performing with Mabou Mines at the Public Theater in New York and in Shakespeare in the Park.
Nelson wrote, directed and produced the feature films Corrina, Corrina (1994) and I Am Sam (2001). She co-wrote the screenplays for Stepmom (1998) and The Story of Us (1999), and produced Fred Claus (2007) and Danny Collins (2015). Her other directing credits include the series Curb Your Enthusiasm (2017 episode) and the film Love the Coopers (2015). She co-created, wrote for and directed episodes of the series Little Voice (2020). Nelson wrote the book for the Broadway musical Waitress (music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles) and directed the stage work Alice by Heart.
She received the Stanley Kramer Award from the Producers Guild of America for I Am Sam. Nelson is married to director Bryan Gordon; their daughter is actress Molly Gordon.
