Biography
Jim Bouton (1939–2019) was an American actor, writer and former professional baseball player. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he played in Major League Baseball as a pitcher for teams including the New York Yankees and Seattle Pilots. After retiring from the sport he became known for his 1970 book Ball Four and later took acting roles.
Bouton appeared as Terry Lennox in Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye (1973). He played the lead role of Jim Barton in the 1976 CBS television series Ball Four, adapted from his book, and had a supporting part as a bullpen coach in How Do You Know (2010). He died in the Berkshires, Massachusetts, from cerebral amyloid angiopathy.
