Biography

Jim Moore is an American photographer who has documented the variety arts since the 1970s. His photographs helped Philippe Petit plan the 1974 tightrope walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and were featured in the documentary Man on Wire (2008), in which Moore appears as himself.

Moore studied film at New York University before taking up corporeal mime at the American Mime Theatre. He performed in the street, founded Hudson Street Studio to promote the variety arts, and contributed photographs to Crawdaddy!. His images of performers have appeared in the New York Times, the Village Voice and various books, and have been exhibited at the New York Public Library and Lincoln Center. He was photographer in residence at the American Mime Theatre from 1975 to 2011. Moore also wrote and filmed the short The Ridiculous Romantic (2012), which won Best Silent Film at the Coney Island Film Festival, and received a DeWitt Stern Local Hero Award in 2013.
