Biography

Jim Parker was a British composer of film and television scores. Born in Hartlepool, County Durham, he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he won a silver medal, and began his career as an oboist in a British Army band before playing with London orchestras and the Barrow Poets.

He composed the music for the BBC series House of Cards (1990) and its sequels To Play the King (1993) and The Final Cut (1995). Parker wrote the scores for 121 episodes of Midsomer Murders (1997–2021) and worked on series including Foyle’s War, The House of Eliott and Mapp & Lucia. He won four BAFTA awards for Best Original Television Music.
