Biography
Jimmy Butler (also credited as James Butler or Jimmie Butler) was an American actor active in films from the 1930s to the early 1940s. Born in Akron, Ohio, on 20 February 1921, he gained early acting experience at the Pasadena Community Playhouse before making his screen debut in Only Yesterday (1933).
He appeared in supporting juvenile roles in several notable productions, including Manhattan Melodrama (1934) as Jim Wade as a boy, Stella Dallas (1937) as Con Morrison grown up, and Boys Town (1938) as Paul Ferguson. Butler also featured in films such as No Greater Glory (1934) and Romance in Manhattan (1935).
In 1941 he married singer Jean Fahrney. Butler was killed in action on 18 February 1945 while serving in the US Army during the Second World War in Theding, France.
