Biography
Jo Harvey Allen is an American actress, writer and artist. Born in Lubbock, Texas, in 1945, she hosted the radio show Rawhide & Roses on KPPC-FM in the 1960s and was among the first performance artists working in alternative spaces during the 1970s.
She has appeared in films including True Stories (1986), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) as the Woman's Awareness Teacher, The Client (1994), In the Valley of Elah (2007), The Homesman (2014) and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) as Aunt Annie. Allen has also written and performed one-woman plays that have toured extensively in the United States and Europe.
She is the recipient of National Endowment for the Arts and Art Matters fellowships and was inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame in 2015.
