Biography
Joan Stein Schimke, also credited as Joan Stein, is an American director and producer. She directed one episode of the television series Law & Order in 2006. Her short film One Day Crossing (2001), her Columbia University MFA thesis project, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.
Schimke has directed and produced several other short films, including Solidarity. (2005), The Necklace (2013), Saeed (2019) and Vacation Memories (2023). She is an associate professor of communications at Adelphi University in New York, where she has taught since 2004 and organises a student film festival.
