Biography
Joe Flaherty was an American actor and comedian. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he began his career with the Second City improv troupe in Chicago before moving to Toronto, where he helped establish a new branch of the company.
He was a writer and performer on the Canadian sketch comedy series SCTV from 1976 to 1984, appearing in characters such as Guy Caballero and Count Floyd, and winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for writing. In 1999 he played Harold Weir, the father of the central siblings, in the series Freaks and Geeks.
Flaherty appeared in films including Back to the Future Part II (1989) and Happy Gilmore (1996), and in voice roles on animated series such as Family Guy and American Dad!.
