Biography
John Bright, also credited as John Milton Bright, was an American screenwriter, journalist and political activist. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he began his career as a newspaper reporter in Chicago, where he worked with Ben Hecht and later collaborated with Kubec Glasmon on stories that were adapted into films.
With Glasmon, Bright co-wrote the story for The Public Enemy (1931), which helped establish the gangster film genre and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Story. His screenwriting credits include She Done Him Wrong (1933), Blonde Crazy (1931), Three on a Match (1932) and Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror (1942). In 1933 he was one of the ten founders of the Screen Writers Guild. Targeted during the Hollywood blacklist era, he moved to Mexico and later returned to write magazine articles and plays.
