Biography
John Cameron is a British composer, arranger and conductor. Born on 20 March 1944 in Woodford, Essex, he studied music at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he performed jazz piano and was vice-president of the Footlights.
After university he worked as an arranger for Donovan, including the score for the 1967 film Poor Cow. His first film composition credit was for Ken Loach’s Kes (1969). Subsequent scores include The Ruling Class (1972), Psychomania (1973) and A Touch of Class (1973), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. He has also composed for television, including Jack the Ripper (1988) and The Secret Garden (1987).
Cameron provided orchestrations for the stage musical Les Misérables, winning a New York Drama Desk Award and a Grammy for the symphonic album. Other theatre work includes arrangements for Honk! and Spend Spend Spend.
