Biography
John Carty is an Irish traditional musician and actor. He plays fiddle, tenor banjo, tenor guitar and flute, with a particular interest in the North Connacht style, and has released several solo albums including Last Night's Fun (1996).
Born in London, he lives in Boyle, County Roscommon. He was named Traditional Musician of the Year by TG4 in 2003 and has performed with bands including At the Racket and Patrick Street. Carty has appeared as a musician or actor in films including Jimmy's Hall (2014), Brooklyn (2015) and The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), in which he played Older Musician 1, and in the television film Royally Ever After (2018).
