Biography
John D. Hancock (born 12 February 1939) is an American stage and film director, producer and writer. He graduated from Harvard University and began his career in theatre, directing Off-Broadway productions including Bertolt Brecht's Man Equals Man and winning an Obie Award for his 1968 staging of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Hancock is best known for directing the 1973 sports drama Bang the Drum Slowly, starring Robert De Niro and Michael Moriarty. His other feature credits include Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971), Baby Blue Marine (1976), California Dreaming (1979), Weeds (1987) and Prancer (1989). He also directed episodes of the television series Hill Street Blues (1985) and The Twilight Zone (1985).
