Biography
John Erick Dowdle is an American film and television director and screenwriter. He grew up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, attended St Thomas Academy, the University of Iowa and New York University’s film programme, and began his career with the feature Full Moon Rising (1996). He frequently collaborates with his brother Drew Dowdle as producer and co-writer under the name The Brothers Dowdle.
Dowdle is known for directing the horror films Quarantine (2008), Devil (2010) and As Above, So Below (2014), as well as the thriller No Escape (2015). He co-created the miniseries Waco (2018) with his brother and has directed episodes of Joe Pickett (2021), Waco: The Aftermath (2023) and Marshals (2026).
