Biography
John Halliday was an American actor of stage and screen. He appeared on Broadway from 1912, notably in sophisticated comedies including The Circle (1921), Sour Grapes (1926), Jealousy (1928) and Rain from Heaven (1934). He made his film debut in the silent era and became a character actor in Hollywood sound films of the 1930s and 1940s, often playing suave or aristocratic figures.
His screen credits include Peter Ibbetson (1935), Desire (1936), Intermezzo: A Love Story (1939) and The Philadelphia Story (1940), in which he played Seth Lord. His final role was in Lydia (1941). He died in Honolulu, Hawaii, on 17 October 1947.
