Biography
John Howlett (1940–2019) was an English screenwriter, novelist and biographer. With David Sherwin he co-wrote the original story 'Crusaders', which formed the basis of Lindsay Anderson's film if.... (1968). He attended Tonbridge School and read history at Jesus College, Oxford.
His other screenwriting credits include the television adaptation of Len Deighton's Game, Set and Match (1988), Murder of a Moderate Man (1985) and episodes of Doomwatch. He also wrote novels and a biography of James Dean, and worked on various European co-productions.
