Biography

John Iacovelli (1959–2023) was an American production designer and scenic designer for film, television and theatre. He served as production designer on the science-fiction series Babylon 5 (1993–1998) and its associated television films, including Babylon 5: The Gathering (1993), Babylon 5: In the Beginning (1998), Babylon 5: Thirdspace (1998), Babylon 5: The River of Souls (1998) and Babylon 5: A Call to Arms (1999). Earlier credits include art direction on the feature film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and production design on Ruby in Paradise (1993).

Iacovelli trained at New York University, where he received an MFA in scenic design and art direction. He designed sets for more than 300 stage productions across Broadway, national tours and regional theatres, and received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Art Direction for a Variety or Music Program for the 2000 television broadcast of Peter Pan. He also won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for set design and a United States Institute for Theatre Technology Distinguished Achievement Award.
