Biography
John Irving is an American-Canadian novelist and screenwriter. He was born on 2 March 1942 in Exeter, New Hampshire, and is best known for his novels The World According to Garp (1978) and The Cider House Rules (1985).
Irving wrote the screenplay for the 1999 film adaptation of The Cider House Rules, directed by Lasse Hallström, for which he received the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Several of his other novels, including The World According to Garp (1982), The Hotel New Hampshire (1984), Simon Birch (1998) and The Door in the Floor (2004), have also been adapted for the screen.
