Biography

John F. Kelly was an American actor whose career ran from the late silent era through the 1940s. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on 29 June 1901 and began working in films in 1928, appearing in early supporting roles for Fox and Warner Bros.

Most of his parts were small or uncredited, though he occasionally received more substantial billing. He is known for playing Elmer, the simple-minded policeman, in the 1938 screwball comedy Bringing Up Baby, as well as roles in After the Thin Man (1936), Moontide (1942) and My Gal Sal (1942). Kelly died in Los Angeles on 9 December 1947.
