Biography

John Laing is a New Zealand film and television director and producer. He began his career as an editor and made his feature directorial debut with Beyond Reasonable Doubt (1980). He has since directed five further features and numerous telemovies, many of them crime dramas based on true events.

Laing has directed episodes of several international series, including Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995), Xena: Warrior Princess (1995), Power Rangers S.P.D. (2005) and Power Rangers Mystic Force (2006). His television film credits include Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior (2006). He has also produced series such as Outrageous Fortune (2005–2010).

Born in Dunedin, he studied at the University of Otago and worked at the National Film Unit before directing in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Canada.
