Biography
John Loder (born William John Muir Lowe) was a British actor who appeared in films in Germany, Britain and the United States. He was born in London in 1898 and educated at Eton and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He served as an officer in the 15th Hussars during the First World War, seeing action at Gallipoli before being taken prisoner by German forces.
After the war he remained in Germany, where he managed a pickle factory and began acting in bit parts in silent films. He later worked in Britain and Hollywood, with credited roles including Peynell in The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) and Ianto Morgan in How Green Was My Valley (1941). Other appearances include Sabotage (1936) and Now, Voyager (1942). He became a United States citizen in 1947 and continued working in film and television until the early 1970s.
