Biography
John McSweeney Jr. was an American film editor. Born on 26 August 1915 in New York City, he began his career at MGM in the 1930s as a payroll clerk before moving to the editorial department as an assistant. After wartime service, he became a full editor in 1952.
McSweeney edited numerous MGM features, including Lovely to Look At (1952), Please Don't Eat the Daisies (1960), Mutiny on the Bounty (1962) and Viva Las Vegas (1964). He received an Academy Award nomination for best film editing on Mutiny on the Bounty.
From the late 1960s he worked freelance on films such as Me, Natalie (1969) and The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (1976), and on television series including Charlie's Angels and Trapper John, M.D. He died on 19 May 1999 in Redondo Beach, California.
