Biography
John Putch is an American actor and director. Born on 27 July 1961 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, he began acting as a child in summer theatre at the Totem Pole Playhouse, run by his father William H. Putch. He appeared in guest roles on series including All in the Family and had a recurring part on One Day at a Time before playing Sean Brody in the film Jaws 3-D (1983).
Putch transitioned to directing in the mid-1990s. He has directed episodes of numerous television series, including The Middle (2009), My Name Is Earl (2005), Scrubs (2001), Ugly Betty (2006), Cougar Town (2009) and black-ish (2014). His feature film directing credits include American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (2009), Beethoven's Christmas Adventure (2011) and several independent films such as Mojave Phone Booth (2005) and the Route 30 trilogy. He is the son of actress Jean Stapleton.
