Biography

John Sacret Young (1946–2021) was an American screenwriter, producer and director who worked primarily in television. He co-created the Vietnam War drama series China Beach (1988–1991) with William F. Broyles Jr. and contributed as writer and producer to later seasons of The West Wing (1999), including episodes for which he received story and teleplay credits.

Young wrote the screenplays for the feature films Testament (1983) and Romero (1989). He began his career as a researcher on the 1970s series Police Story before writing for it and went on to work on series including VR.5 and Firefly Lane. A Princeton graduate, he received seven Emmy nominations and won two Writers Guild of America Awards.
