Biography

John Swihart is an American composer of film and television scores. He is known for his work on the films Napoleon Dynamite (2004), Employee of the Month (2006), Youth in Revolt (2009) and Table 19 (2017), and the television series How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014).

Swihart was born in Mt Kisco, New York, and raised in Bloomington, Indiana. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1986. Before scoring films, he performed as a multi-instrumentalist in Blue Man Group shows in Boston, New York and Las Vegas.

His score for Napoleon Dynamite, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004, earned him a Golden Satellite Award for Best Original Score in 2004 and a Grammy nomination in 2006 for the soundtrack album.
