Biography
Jon Thor Birgisson, known professionally as Jónsi, is an Icelandic composer, musician and the vocalist and guitarist of the post-rock band Sigur Rós. He is credited as composer, often in collaboration with Alex Somers, on the films We Bought a Zoo (2011), Aloha (2015), Boy Erased (2018), Tom Clancy's Without Remorse (2021) and Rental Family (2025). He also contributed to the television series Manhattan (2014).
Birgisson was born on 23 April 1975 in Iceland. He has released solo albums and collaborated on ambient projects with Somers under the name Jónsi & Alex. His film work includes original scores and songs for several features and the How to Train Your Dragon franchise.
