Biography
Jonathan Oppenheim was an American film and television editor, producer and writer. Born in New York City on 10 November 1952, he was the son of actress Judy Holliday and television producer David Oppenheim. He began his career as a painter before working as an assistant editor on features including Arthur (1981) and moving into documentaries.
Oppenheim edited more than 24 films, many of them documentaries. He is known for his work on Streetwise (1984), Paris Is Burning (1990), Children Underground (2001) and The Oath (2010). He served as a longtime mentor and advisor at the Sundance Institute’s Documentary Edit and Story Laboratory and received story consultant credits on numerous other productions.
Oppenheim died in New York City on 16 July 2020.
