Biography
Josep Iturbi Bàguena, also credited as José Iturbi, was a Spanish pianist, conductor and actor. Born in Valencia on 28 November 1895, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire and established an international career as a concert pianist before becoming a conductor, notably of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra from 1936 to 1944.
Iturbi appeared as himself in several Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical films. These include Thousands Cheer (1943), Music for Millions (1944), Anchors Aweigh (1945), Three Daring Daughters (1948) and That Midnight Kiss (1949). He died in Los Angeles on 28 June 1980.
