Biography
José María Caffarel was a Spanish actor. He was born in Barcelona on 10 November 1919 and died in Madrid on 6 November 1999.
He began his professional career in the theatre in the company of Adolfo Marsillach after working as a fabric salesman and participating in amateur productions. His film debut came in 1957 with El último cuplé. He appeared as a supporting actor in more than 160 films, including Doctor Zhivago (1965), Tristana (1970) as Don Zenón, The Passenger (1975), and Plácido (1962) as Zapater. He also worked extensively in television and as a voice actor in dubbing.
Caffarel was the father of Carmen Caffarel, who later served as director general of RTVE.
