Biography
José Rivera is a Puerto Rican playwright and screenwriter. Born on 24 March 1955 in San Juan, he is best known for his stage plays, including the Obie Award-winning Marisol and References to Salvador Dalí Make Me Hot.
Rivera wrote the screenplay for the 2004 film The Motorcycle Diaries, for which he became the first Puerto Rican nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. His other screen credits include Letters to Juliet (2010), On the Road (2012) and Trade (2007). He has also written for television series such as Eerie, Indiana and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.
