Biography
Josef Bierbichler, also credited as Sepp Bierbichler, is a German actor who has worked extensively in theatre, film and television. He is also a writer and director.
Born on 26 April 1948 in Ambach, Germany, he trained at the Otto Falckenberg drama school in Munich. He began his career on stage and later appeared in films by directors including Werner Herzog, Herbert Achternbusch and Michael Haneke.
He is known for roles such as the steward in The White Ribbon (2009), Franz Brenninger in Winterreise (2006), and Hias in Heart of Glass (1976). Bierbichler has received awards including the German Film Award and the Fontane Prize for his novel Mittelreich.
