Biography

Joseph E. Gallagher is an American cinematographer and director, also credited as Joe Gallagher. Born in New York City on 11 November 1964, he began his career in the camera department before progressing to director of photography roles.

He has served as director of photography on the HBO series Deadwood (2004–2006), for which he received a Primetime Emmy nomination, as well as Lie to Me (2009), Bosch (2015), Billions (2016–2023) and Mayfair Witches (2023). Earlier credits include camera operator on Half Baked (1998) and Dude, Where's My Car? (2000).

Gallagher has also directed episodes of series including Matador (2014), Salvation (2017) and Charmed (2018).
